Soulmate!AU Headcanons – Colors

• Dean started seeing colors the minute he met baby Sammy in the hospital room of Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
• When he giggled and said that Sammy’s eyes were pretty and green, brown, and yellow, Mary and John met one another’s eyes and there was panic there because something was wrong. No way could their sons be soulmates.
• Sam’s never not seen color. He grew up seeing color and when he would do things like point out a pretty color to other students or his teachers when he was young, all of them just shushed him because he ‘definitely couldn’t see colors yet’; no one meets their soulmate when they’re only kindergarteners.
• Dean’s eyes were little Sammy’s favorite thing in the whole world and the teachers were wrong because Sam knew they were green; he could see it.
• When Dean learned what the colors meant, John told him that he was never allowed to tell Sam and Dean, being the perfect little soldier he was, never planned to.
• Until Sam came home crying one day when he was fourteen because he’d always seen colors and they learned in sex-ed class that some people who are born seeing colors don’t have soulmates at all. He believed he didn’t have a soulmate; he thought he was broken.
• Dad was on a hunt at the time so Dean decided he would rather go against John’s rules and make Sam feel better than carry on with the lie.
• Dean sat him down and told him that he’d seen colors since the day Sam was born. Sam didn’t get it at first.
• When Sam finally got it, his jaw went slack and his eyes went wide because Dean was his soulmate and suddenly everything made a lot more sense. He’d dreamed about it so many times but never thought it was a reality because he didn’t know that Dean could see the colors too.
• Sam thought maybe the Universe screwed up at first because they were brothers, even if Sam’s feelings had always been more than that, but when he kissed Dean for the first time, he realized there was never a mistake.
