Another list I’ve been meaning to get to for forever.  Sam uses his awesomeness to save Dean from hell:

Shelter Beneath the Mundane (5,100 words, R).  A very different take on it, but lovely.  Sort of a time-loop fic.  Really enjoyed this.

The Firefly that Loved Metallica (10,600 words, R).  This is one of my favourite fics.  It’s sweet, but also has a little something more to it.

It’s the Blueprint of Your Life (38,000 words, nc-17).  A really interesting fic, where Sam goes back in time and is given another chance at dealing with Dean’s deal.  (It could be argued that Sam doesn’t technically save Dean from hell in this one, but I say he did since Dean went to hell in Sam’s original timeline).

Kicks Like a Sleep Twitch (28,000 words, nc-17).  A very different take on it, which I like.  Sam starts using dreamroot during the year before Dean’s deal comes due, and it ends up creating an unbelievably strong bond between the boys.

The common fate of all (10,000 words, R).  A really eerie type fic, which really works, as it’s about hell.  I like this one—it felt so lonely and bleak.  Dean works in insurance, lives a normal life, and then he meets Sam.

Me and the Devil Blues (2,200 words, R).  A short one.  Sam gets Dean out of hell, but he’s not the same Dean.  This one is more complex than you might think, and stays with you.

Extremist Means (8,400 words, nc-17).  Another interesting take on hell. Sam saves Dean, and there’s Wincest, and it’s very wonderful.

Death Like Dying (3,100 words, pg-13).  When Sam gets Dean out of hell, Dean doesn’t remember anything.  Really lovely, focuses on the aftermath of Dean getting out of hell.

Amidst the Wars of Elements (7,500 words, PG).  More about the aftermath (Sam caring for Dean after, some very sweet hurt/comfort), but this one is quite lovely.

I’d Gladly Lose Me To Find You (36,000 words, nc-17).  I recommended this one fairly recently, on the mute!Sam post, but it fits perfectly here.  Sam saves Dean from hell, and has to give something up.

To Put Asunder (12,500 words, PG).  Sam turns to myths to get Dean out of hell.  An interesting fic with some lovely art.

You Take It With You (30,000 words, nc-17).  A really fantastic story where getting Dean back is just half the battle.  Now Sam is stuck with an incorporeal Dean, and he can’t figure out how to get him back in his body.

Enjoy!
