No Loitering by bertee (~2,800 words). In which Castiel is very busy and important but remarkably inept at prioritizing.
Castiel POV, contains unrequited Sam/Cas and Dean/Cas.
Case Study 24-71x by pheebs1 (2,869 words). A psychologist presents his insane patient Dean Winchester to his students. Gen.
A Man Walks Into A Bar and its sequel It Was A Dark And Stormy Night by wrenseroticlibrary (970 and 2,107 words). Sam and Dean are bikers that live on a steady diet of violence, horsepower, and each other. It’s heaven on earth, as far as they’re concerned. Only the first fic is outsider POV.
Strangers In A Bar by hopefulwriter27 (3,320 words). Sam and Dean are evil. They like to kill.
Warm Strangers by extraonions (~3,400 words). All of Monument, Colorado grieves when an explosion destroys the local police station and everyone in it. But who shall mourn for Sam and Dean Winchester, the two fugitives also present? Gen.

They’re My Boys by soulfulsam (4,876 words) Bobby helped raise Sam & Dean and, no matter what they do, has always thought of them as “his boys.” But when his soul becomes bound to his flask after his death and he’s trapped in small spaces with Sam & Dean 24/7 how will he feel about what he sees in their relationship, especially if they get affectionate with each other and he can’t escape?
On A Wing And A Prayer by sinestrated (6,236 words). It’ a slow, almost lazy night at the bar when the Winchesters walk in. Futurefic, second-person outsider POV. Legendary!Winchesters, demonic!Sam, angelic!Dean (less cliche than it sounds), and a cameo by Lucas (“Dean in the Water”).
Own It by king_wizard (6,815 words). But he’s never going to be able to burn the image of Sam cradling one hand around the perfect curve of Dean’s face, dropping the other to the cut of Dean’s hip (made for fingers and tongues to trail down, to taste), walking Dean backward until Dean is flush against the wall and Sam is flush against him. This is something that can’t be denied.
It should be mentioned that this is John POV and that the fic contains unrequited John/Dean.
Legal Wincest ‘verse by flawedamythyst (7,847 words). Sam and Dean gets arrested and tried with incest. One of the fics in the ‘verse is outsider POV. No author summary.

A new player arrives to try his luck, only to discover that the game is held in a dump of a house in the desert and that the dragon is a dude named Dean, chained to the house by the ankle. The hero soon realizes that he cannot leave unless he wins. The dragon is growing blood-thirsty, the game makes no sense, and the hero’s only hope are the clues dropped by the dragon’s brother who’s just along for the ride
Crush by sonofabiscuit77 (~61,000 words). Five years after the apocalypse didn’t happen and Sam and Dean have settled down, or as much down as the Winchesters can ever settle down. Sam is a college professor and Dean is a well-respected small business owner and they’re learning how to balance work, hunting and dog-ownership while coping with the metaphorical and literal scars of war. Life’s not perfect, not for a (sort of) out and proud couple in small town USA with a lot to hide, but they’re dealing, that is, until Dean employs one sexually-confused teenager who develops an unhealthy obsession with both of them… Switching between five years earlier and now, we learn how the boys came together, how they made it through the big fight and whether they’ll ever manage to find that flighty temptress, happily ever after. Around half the fic is outsider POV.
Dean Winchester is a Preacher, from a long line of Preachers. He believes unreservedly in The Revelation of The End Times; he sees the evidence of its truth in the desolate dying world all around him every day. The End is coming. It is unstoppable. Humankind’s destiny is a foregone conclusion.
And then a Hunter arrives at Dean’s Church and asks him a frightening question: What if the future isn’t set? What if The End of Days can be stopped?
The Hunter’s name is Sam and he speaks Heresy. But he also knows Dean far better than any stranger should, and Dean quickly finds himself captivated by the man’s vision of a better future.
And so begins an epic quest across the Badlands: a quest for knowledge and truth; a quest for freedom; and, ultimately, a quest for humanity’s very existence.
Big Bang 2018
Wincest | AU | Explicit | 50 K | AO3
raised apart | powers!Sam | Postapocalyptic AU | hunters as an ethnic group
I have been brooding over this rec for more than a week. I started reading the story and knew I would want to rec it about halfway through, finished it, started the post and then…nothing. Since it’s hiatus I spent some time thinking over S13 and somewhere along the lines I realized I needed to approach this fic like the latest season of Supernatural:
Just go by feel and ignore the details.
This fic feels like Supernatural of the new era. It’s the fic for people who are nostalgic about ‘early SPN’ but who embraced the different tone, colors and music of the ‘new SPN’. It’s a story for people who still love the show and who still feel that ‘thing’ we all feel when the show does good.
You liked the idea of Apocalypse!world: This fic plays with a postapocalyptic world too. This one comes with a lot more worldbuilding and adds Hunters as an ethnic group into the mix. Definitely check out the fic it was inspired by, it’s a great one that I should rec one of these days…
You liked seeing all your old faves come back: They’re all here too! Mary, Charlie, Kevin, Bobby and a host of others make this story a beautiful family reunion.
You love a good callback to the early seasons: Strap into your seats friends. This fic is pretty much made of references, easter eggs, quotes and canon plot lines with a twist. It’s so much fun!
Ok but the Wincest…?: Also happening, no worries. A lot of pining, heated glances and battles with the ultimate enemy ‘personal space’ 🙂 Also, a pretty good resolution to the “Oh God, we’re brothers?!” reveal and smut that earns the explicit rating.
All in all I call this a successful beginning to my personal Big Bang season and if any of the above is your thing you will enjoy this too!
I took a break from Supernatural, and somehow I got roped right back in. This is super late, but there is never a time I cannot read current-season fics. I loved so many of these! Fic writers are getting so good with their mannerisms and tone that it’s freaky realistic. Brothers dealing with Jack, dying, and sometimes the general bunker era. Not all of these are one shots, but most are! Some may be short, some may be long. They are all about gay brothers.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer teaches girls that they are strong and no man is worth their life
Supernatural teaches girls they must die so two codependent brothers can learn a lesson and because misogynistic writers says so
Fun fact: women actually have a better track record than males on the show 👌 And its the fans who force the writers to kill them off 👌 So take your misguided attempt at social justice and shove it
Supernatural is first and foremost a show about male relationships. Don’t like it, there’s a very simple solution.
So done with this!!! I actually wrote a post about this a while back as I have been watching Supernatural since I was a college kid (I actually studied media and sociology with literature and language and wrote several papers on portrayals and expectations of women in TV and literature so I feel like I can comment!) I would 100% consider myself to be a feminist. Supernatural is not sexist. I can’t be bothered to re-write my old post so the premise was: A show is not sexist just because it’s not about women. A chauvinistic show would NEVER have scary female villains because a real misogynists never feel threatened by a woman (we’re too weak, apparently). The male characters are objectified equally to the female ones. Supernatural is horrible to everyone and ALL humans are regularly described as ‘meat suits.’ I just don’t understand how we’re watching the same show! The female characters in Supernatural have been epic, and the martyrs are both male and female (Bobby, Rufus, Ash anyone?) If you wanna do actual social justice look at Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey, or hell the entire ‘Gangster’ genre! They’re dripping with negative portrayals of weak willed women. Also, there’s loads of female writers for Supernatural so unless they’re misogynists too, I don’t know what to say. There’s plenty of shows that need calling out for sexism. Supernatural is not one of them!
Another list I’ve been meaning to get to for forever. Sam uses his awesomeness to save Dean from hell:
Shelter Beneath the Mundane (5,100 words, R). A very different take on it, but lovely. Sort of a time-loop fic. Really enjoyed this.
The Firefly that Loved Metallica (10,600 words, R). This is one of my favourite fics. It’s sweet, but also has a little something more to it.
It’s the Blueprint of Your Life (38,000 words, nc-17). A really interesting fic, where Sam goes back in time and is given another chance at dealing with Dean’s deal. (It could be argued that Sam doesn’t technically save Dean from hell in this one, but I say he did since Dean went to hell in Sam’s original timeline).
Kicks Like a Sleep Twitch(28,000 words, nc-17). A very different take on it, which I like. Sam starts using dreamroot during the year before Dean’s deal comes due, and it ends up creating an unbelievably strong bond between the boys.
The common fate of all (10,000 words, R). A really eerie type fic, which really works, as it’s about hell. I like this one—it felt so lonely and bleak. Dean works in insurance, lives a normal life, and then he meets Sam.
Me and the Devil Blues (2,200 words, R). A short one. Sam gets Dean out of hell, but he’s not the same Dean. This one is more complex than you might think, and stays with you.
Extremist Means (8,400 words, nc-17). Another interesting take on hell. Sam saves Dean, and there’s Wincest, and it’s very wonderful.
Death Like Dying (3,100 words, pg-13). When Sam gets Dean out of hell, Dean doesn’t remember anything. Really lovely, focuses on the aftermath of Dean getting out of hell.
Amidst the Wars of Elements (7,500 words, PG). More about the aftermath (Sam caring for Dean after, some very sweet hurt/comfort), but this one is quite lovely.
I’d Gladly Lose Me To Find You (36,000 words, nc-17). I recommended this one fairly recently, on the mute!Sam post, but it fits perfectly here. Sam saves Dean from hell, and has to give something up.
To Put Asunder (12,500 words, PG). Sam turns to myths to get Dean out of hell. An interesting fic with some lovely art.
You Take It With You (30,000 words, nc-17). A really fantastic story where getting Dean back is just half the battle. Now Sam is stuck with an incorporeal Dean, and he can’t figure out how to get him back in his body.
Oh my, so there are a lot of good fics out there but I’m going to give you a list of writers whose characterization of Sam and Dean I consistently love, along with a few of my favorites from each author.
What a fun ask to come home to!! I think Tom is like 100% Jared, just his hair his eyes everything. Shep is definitely kind of a half and half of Gen and Jared, like there’s no defining thing thats 100% either of them. And Odette to me is still so young, and idk if cause she’s the only girl or what but she looks like Gen. Just my opinions, thanks anon!😊
