Can I just scream about how Rowena talks to and about pretty much everyone else like a grandparent condescending to sweet and cute but very small and simple children, but she speaks to Sam like he’s an equal and makes herself vulnerable in front of him? Can we talk about how this centuries-old witch of unfathomable power treats Sam Winchester like they’re standing on the same level? Cry with me about their faces when they learned of the end Fate crafted for them, about how they both clearly don’t want to hurt the other but also understand better than most why they do the things they do.

I am so in love with how mournful Sam and Rowena are in all of their interactions this episode. Life is unfair for both of them and they’ve been through so much that even any interaction that should have animosity is just tinged with regret instead.

Sam is the one who is destined to kill Rowena but I don’t think anyone understands them better than each other right now either and that’s a tragically fascinating dynamic to have to function with.
