Despite the fact that Sam’s brain must be slowly liquefying at this point, given the trajectory of this season so far I feel like this image may be Of Use to Sam!fans (and concerned onlookers) in liveblogging future episodes
can the writers please stop sidelining sam??? i mean, news flash: as far as i’m concerned, he’s a main character too?? it’s wild, i know. i have to keep reminding this to myself because the writers show us the exact opposite. literally they gave me just like three episodes with a gLIMPSE of sam’s complexity as a character and gave me hope that mAYBE he’s still important to the writers just to let me down?? get your heads out of dean’s ass for ten minutes and be fair to my son??? ? ?
Has anyone else noticed that Sam is almost never given the time to mourn?
Dean is always the one dealing with pent-up sadness, drinking down his depression and working off any issues he has. But Sam is forever placed in the role of the one to comfort Dean and get him back on his feet. (This is like a total change from the earlier seasons, when Dean was always in the role of caretaker.)
But whenever anyone close to the Winchesters dies, it’s always Sam who has to be the one to look forward. Like, always.
When Eileen was killed, we didn’t even get so much as a one full scene for Sam to mourn. The most we got was about a two second shot of Sam looking at her body with a sad expression. And that’s it. Nothing was even verbally expressed. It’s been the same this season so far with Cas gone.
It’s frustrating to me that Dean is the only one who’s allowed to show mourning. Sure, he’s not talking about it, but there have been so many visual cues that let us know he is. With Sam, not so much.
I hope the previews for next week’s episode have misled me or I’m just all wide-eyed and nervous and completely misunderstanding everything, but it’s very much looking like the show is setting Toni up to be a reluctant ally to the Winchesters. Because, apparently, no season is complete without Sam having to work with people who tortured and violated him.
I haven’t been this upset over this show in a long time. Sam deserved to have a light in the darkness of his life, and every time he does it’s ripped from him. One day he’s not going to bounce back. He shouldn’t have to keep bouncing back. Wow. Ouch.
