The look people get on their face when you say you don’t like Castiel. They are so shocked. Like sorry, he ain’t that special. Then they’re like “why don’t you like him?” and I give my list: Castiel broke Sam’s hell wall, lied to the brothers, let Lucifer out, let the Leviathan’s out. He’s responsible for Bobby getting killed, Kelly getting killed, hundreds of Angels murdered at his hands. Blank looks on their face. I swear the show does a real good job of erasing Castiel’s part in the blame of “EVERYTHING” that people have to actually remember his guilty part in the act.

I’ve always thought the problem with Castiel is that a lot of people came to him through the very cute fan art and the wildly out of character fanfiction (for both him and Dean). The people that “love” him have this warped view that isn’t based on any reality in the canon on the show. If you like someone and have the view they are a cute snowflake that needs to be protected, you are going to be a lot more forgiving of their faults (or possibly not even see their faults at all.) The reverse is also true, where fandom paints a character in a bad light (*cough* Sam Winchester *cough*), you will view that character unfavourably and look for faults while watching, regardless of the reality of their actions on screen.

Dean is packing his
duffle when he catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror, and for the fraction
of a second, he’s convinced that a stranger is staring back at him.

He straightens his
back and looks again. He hasn’t looked at himself in the mirror a lot, these
past years – not much to see, he’d figured. Now, he looks.

New scars. The
same guilt-ridden tautness in his shoulders. He doesn’t look young anymore: the
fullness to his mouth that has been there has faded, the lines around his eyes
are sharp and tells tales of sleepless nights full of whiskey. There used to be
a playful gleam in his eyes, but he realizes now that he’s lost it somewhere
along the road: he looks somber and tight jawed, and there’s a touch of grey around
his temples.

He looks like John
had, the last years of his life; tired and pinched, the planes of his face a
little mean looking.

Dean looks away.

“Hey.”

Dean turns around.
Sam’s watching him, standing in the door opening with his arms crossed over his
chest. He smiles softly, and Dean’s heart flutters in his chest; nothing’s changed, there.

“What are you
doing?” Dean asks.

“Same as you,” Sam
says easily and steps into the room, one eyebrow arched. “Admiring the view.”

Dean scoffs out a disbelieving
laughter and feels his cheeks go a little warm. “You’re cheesy.” His eyes
flickers back his reflection again. He adds in a murmur: “Ain’t that much of a
view anymore, anyway.”

Sam walks up
behind him, and Dean’s breath catches a little in his throat when Sam’s fingers
curl around his waist. It’s a little softer these days, and he bites his lip as
his gaze drops to the floor.

“Dean,” Sam mumbles
into his ear, his warm breath sending shivers down his spine. “Look up for me.”

Dean does. He
stares at them in the mirror: Sam’s behind him, one arm wrapped around Dean’s
waist, his long hair falling in a soft curl around his face. He still looks
young, Dean thinks: his mouth is still pink and soft, his gaze glittering. He
looks like something Dean doesn’t want to tarnish.

“Do you know what my
biggest fear has been?” Sam asks quietly, running his knuckles softly against
the scruff of Dean’s jaw.

Dean’s eyes meet
Sam’s in the mirror, and he shakes his head. “No.”

Dean feels Sam
swallow, his grip around Dean growing a little tighter. “That I never would get
to see you like this,” Sam says. Dean almost, almost, misses the tremor in his voice. “That I wouldn’t get to see
you age. Dean, I’ve been so terrified I’d have to go on living, without you.
With just. With just the memory of your young face, while I grew older.”

Dean’s fingers find
Sam’s; braids them together. “Sam.”

“You have no idea,
do you,” Sam murmurs. “Just how beautiful you are to me like this. You’re. You’re
alive, and ageing. Dean, you’re so perfect.”

Sam turns Dean
around gently, lifts his chin, and Dean feels like he’s sixteen years old again;
melting into Sam’s arms, just as powerless as he had been all those years ago
when he’d first realized how gone he
was for his beautiful baby brother.

Sam’s mouth is hot
against Dean’s when he whispers: “Never been more in love with you.”

Dean throws his
arms around Sam’s neck. They kiss, and it’s so simple and perfect, and when
Dean’s fingers tangle in Sam’s hair, he thinks: I need centuries more of this.

Okay but imagine this:

Dean finally getting control of his body again and breaking down apologizing to Sam for Gadreel because he finally knows what it’s like now

Except that he HAS apologized to Sam for Gareel or just EVERYTYING, like, thousands times ALREADY?

He called himself POISON, and he took the whole responsibility of Kevin’s death himself. And he took the MoC to fight Abaddon and HIMSELF alone, and then dead and then was turned to a damn Demon for apologizing and atonement. But what was his sin? Oh, it was SAVING HIS BROTHER’S LIFE, desperately!

And Michael? Dean LET himself be Michael’s tool, be the vessel for SAVING SAM, AGAIN!!! He ALLOWED it, with full awareness of the consequences AND “what it’s like”. And wanna bet? When he coming back, when he “finally getting control of his body”, not like his brother, Dean would NOT put a single blame on the brother of him he had to sacrifice himself, not just his body but also his soul, his will, his BEING to save. He would berate the one and only for whatever Michael did: Dean Winchester. He would ignore all his dilemma and his struggle and his intention and his enforced responsibility since he was four,  but just remember his means and the result it causes, like every time things gone wrong.

You know, it’s just exactly what Sam did to him after came back from Gadreel. I mean all the selective blindness and pointed blames. Seems it’s just ALWAYS Dean at the end of the shot, no matter who holds the gun, Sam, Dean himself, or you guys. Oh remember the Faith event? Back then, it was Sam got 2 citizens killed for saving Dean against Dean’s will. What was IT like? But still it was Dean whom Dean kept blaming on, and it was Dean who bore the burden of guilt since. And you wanna talk about apologizing?

But rest your soft bleeding heart, with the writers nowadays, it’s almost promised there will be THE apology you so long for– even if they don’t remember the S9 exists at all. After all, Dean was/is designed for apologizing.

Woah, there. Dean calling himself “poison” is not an
apology.

Cutting for length and wank.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Dean not only didn’t apologize, he said he would do it again.
