Buffy The Vampire Slayer teaches girls that they are strong and no man is worth their life

Supernatural teaches girls they must die so two codependent brothers can learn a lesson and because misogynistic writers says so

Fun fact: women actually have a better track record than males on the show 👌 And its the fans who force the writers to kill them off 👌 So take your misguided attempt at social justice and shove it

Supernatural is first and foremost a show about male relationships. Don’t like it, there’s a very simple solution.

So done with this!!! I actually wrote a post about this a while back as I have been watching Supernatural since I was a college kid (I actually studied media and sociology with literature and language and wrote several papers on portrayals and expectations of women in TV and literature so I feel like I can comment!) I would 100% consider myself to be a feminist.
Supernatural is not sexist.
I can’t be bothered to re-write my old post so the premise was:
A show is not sexist just because it’s not about women.
A chauvinistic show would NEVER have scary female villains because a real misogynists never feel threatened by a woman (we’re too weak, apparently).
The male characters are objectified equally to the female ones. Supernatural is horrible to everyone and ALL humans are regularly described as ‘meat suits.’
I just don’t understand how we’re watching the same show! The female characters in Supernatural have been epic, and the martyrs are both male and female (Bobby, Rufus, Ash anyone?)
If you wanna do actual social justice look at Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey, or hell the entire ‘Gangster’ genre! They’re dripping with negative portrayals of weak willed women.
Also, there’s loads of female writers for Supernatural so unless they’re misogynists too, I don’t know what to say.
There’s plenty of shows that need calling out for sexism. Supernatural is not one of them!
