That’s such a mean question because I have so fucking many 🙂 But I will give you one that I think doesn’t get talked about enough: Lost in Time by dimeliora At first glance this story had everything I usually try to stay away from in a fic. Sam and Dean don’t know they’re brothers, there’s an OC with a prominent role and sure I like Gabriel, but in small doses please. Despite all that this story ended up being one of my all time favourites. Dimeliora reworks canon in ways I have never seen before on a breathtaking scale. It is at times a nervewracking read because on the one hand everything is different and then again so much hasn’t changed at all. The Summary really doesn’t prepare you for the ride that is to follow, but I think it is actually better to go into this as unspoiled as possible.

Ophelia is the original character to end all original characters. If ever the Winchesters had a little sister in spirit it’s her. We all know those moments when we find ourselves screaming at our screens when Sam and Dean are at each others throats, not communicating and keeping secrets from each other. *waves at S9* Well in this story Ophelia is basically all of us and calls them on their shit.

I really love this story a lot and believe that every Wincest fan should give this a shot. I’ll be over here hoping and praying that she will give us a sequel one day because I really can’t get enough of this version of the show she created. It was the FIRST multi-chapter wincest fanfic I read, back in 2009, when I was first getting into fanfic, and to this day, it is still my ALL-TIME FAVORITE READ IT at least ONCE A YEAR RECOMMEND IT TO ALL MY FRIENDS fanfic. The characters are spot on. It is an AU of season 3 and it is perfect. THIS is what Kripke should have done instead of going back on his word and bringing angels into the show.

The whole dark and tense atmosphere of the story has always stuck with me. I’m not very eloquent and I’m not doing the story justice with my review, but I mean, just imagine if the Winchesters were a bit more unhinged, more reckless, and a whole lot scarier. They’re doing good, hunting evil and all, but they’re not good people.

rags and riches by ElenyasBlood – this is the first j2 au i truly fell in love with. the writing is beautiful and the characters are well written and fleshed out and i love jared and jensen’s relationship so much in this one (i have a weakness for slow burn fics, and this is definitely one). one of the things i remember the most about my experience while reading this fic is that it always stayed in my mind, and i kept asking myself questions about the characters and their past and was always curious about what is going to happen next. and oh, yeah, bring tissues. this fic broke my heart and made me cry more than a couple of times.

giving up the ghost by dimpleforyourthoughts: this fic is so unique. it has an original plot, great side characters, and great relationships besides jared and jensen’s. and listen, i love jared and jensen’s bond so much in this fic. the way it grows and the way they get to know each other better… their bond is just so pure. and did i mention this is a wonderfully written fic, that has humor but will also break your heart into pieces? seriously, go read it, you won’t regret it.

but my homework was never quite like this: i adore this fic. i only read it recently, but i found myself falling in love and getting hooked without even knowing it. the thing about this fic, is that it’s not just about porn (which is the hottest i ever read), but i love jared and jensen’s dynamic and how their relationship grows and changes. it’s really interesting to see this happening, and also very touching.

Invisible Boy’verse: for me, they’re two parts of the same whole, and you can’t read one without the other. it’s hard for me to explain what those fics mean to me. i just love them and i love the boys in them. i love the pining, i love the slow burn, i love watching sam and dean being in love with each other throughout their entire lives (or at least, the majority of it). those fics are painful, but with dollylux’s writing style, so often her fics felt warm, felt like home. there is literally no other way for me to describe it. just read it.

facta non verba by dimeloria – sam is mute in this fic, and it follows their relationship since sam goes mute when he and dean are kids. their relationship is still as codependent as ever, and dean is just as protective, although it’s in a slightly different way. this fic is sad, it will upset you, but it’s also so sweet and heartwarming, and shows how much sam and dean truly love each other. it’s a really great read.

the firefly that loved metallica: i really love this fic, and it’s truly beautiful. i love the imagery and i love the characters, and i love sam and dean’s love for each other and their codependency. i can’t really say anything more about it without spoiling anything, but it really is a great fic.

Brothers shouldn’t this is just beautiful and poetic and i love it so much. and it’s so, so wincest. (minor warning about child abuse, but it doesn’t take a big part of the fic)

Recs by my beloved buttheyrebrothers Okay, Aeren, here are my favorite fics (of course non-exhaustive)

Courting death” This story has it all. I laughed, I cried, I got hot and bothered (and there wasn’t even real sex!). The beginning is just so entertaining, Dean is such a sassy death and his banter with Sam was full of cute flirtation it made my heart melt. Dean’s devotion to Sam (and his jealousy of Castiel) was written so convincing and Sam was just so likeable when he tried to understand what the hell was going on. I loved how everyone was so protective of Sam and wary of Dean’s intentions towards him and how Dean agreed with them. And damn the sexual tension, especially after they learned they were brothers and weren’t allowed to be together. GNAH! Seriously, one of the best fics I read.

Hit the Ground Crawling This story stayed with me for a long time. I can’t even tell you all the reasons why I loved it so much but I really did. Dean’s way to recovery is so hard in this one, for both of them. And the author didn’t shy away from showing it all, the good and the bad. The suffering Dean was going through and how Sam’s utter helplessness but also his fear and sadness all turned to anger at Dean because it did need an outlet. I wanted to shake Sam so often and I think this shows how amazing the author is, because this was not a story from a bitter Dean girl that served to make Sam to bad guy but a try to show that we all have moments when we do the wrong thing because we are helpless and confused and that we can be forgiven anyway.

This one was very angsty and it shredded my heart to pieces but it was worth all the pain, even if my heart bled a long time afterwards for Dean. Great read, really! You won’t lay it down until your finished (and then re-read it again).

The puzzle that is me (+Sequel) We all know and love felisblanco and this one is just my favorite of hers. Jensen has Asperger and that makes it hard for others to deal with him sometimes. He himself copes very well most of the time, happy to have found his niche. But then he meets Jared and finds himself wanting things he never wanted before. He even tries to be what (he thinks) Jared needs. It broke my heart how much Jensen is trying in this one, how hard everything is on him without the additional struggle of being in love for the first time. Both characters are so perfectly written you want to stay with them forever. Jared’s struggles to learn what Jensen needs from him and to accept things about him he took for granted in other relationships. I don’t know, for me this is just the perfect story about how love is all about sacrifices and compromises. Most of the time it’s not easy but always worth it.

Oh and Jensen’s bluntness is also very funny.

Beholder What can I say about this? The plot is great, it never stopped being entertaining and suspense-packed. It was a slow-burn and damn I was rooting so hard for our boys. Jensen’s mental state was a really painful thing and I admired how Jared handled it. The author did a great job of showing both their struggles in a very realistic and convincing way, they never felt out of character for me. Their love was just so pure you want nothing more than a happy ending. This is another one of these stories you won’t put down until you’re finished. Have I mentioned how much I love sandymg?

Vampire!fic is always a plus 2. the AU-verse in which it is set is interesting and refreshing yet does not stray too far from canon 3. it has great art too 4. the plot is captivating 5. and the smut scenes are just bliss. hope this is an okay contribution to your project! 🙂

rec by spnandbuffy4ever Unexpected verse by Char and Brie This was really hard to choose because i can think of a lot of J2 fics that i love but, in the end, i will always going to fall back on this authors since one of them (Brie) is my favorite writter ever (Sadly she is not around anymore).

Anyway i choose this one because the fic is sooo well written it got me hook up till the first minute. This verse have nine parts and i’m sure i could read nine more without problems. The development of the characters is on point and the angst is pretty well balance. Some part hurts like hell and others make you smile and others are just hot as fuck (Specially the first time Jared and jensen have a little more that a make out session, still one of my favorite sex scenes ever). I also always remember this fic like the one in which i read for the first time the sentence “they were shoved so far into the closet they could see fucking Narnia” and that made me laugh for a solid ten minutes tbh.

Really this fic is gold. it had simply everything i could wish for in a fic and more :).

It’s dangerous, being happy, waiting for it all to slip away. Set in season 7 after Sam’s wall comes down and all they have is each other – Bobby’s gone, Sam’s convinced he’s going crazy, and Dean’s self destructive. But somehow they manage to keep each other together. Both boys top in this fic.

Trelawney by smalltroven (50k words, Explicit)

The Winchester brothers finally get around to re-kindling their relationship in their new, slightly more boring life, (fic begins after all the Gates of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory have been closed.) All thanks to a case involving a beautiful three story house in Vermont, that’s there and isn’t and sometimes disappears couples whose families don’t accept their love. (I highly recommend all of this author’s work, not just this fic.)
