Let me talk about Sam Fucking Winchester for a second. Sam has been betrayed, tortured, lied to, hurt mentally and physically beyond all imagining, possessed (repeatedly), disbelieved, ignored, taunted, manipulated, and cut down in every way a human can be by both enemies and allies, and he’s still walking on two feet and using words when he himself admits no words will suffice for what he has experienced. That’s badass, but it’s not what I’m on about.
Sam has experienced the literal worst all beings mortal and otherwise have to offer. He’s seen the darkest side of humanity on the daily. Somehow, he still has room aplenty for love and empathy and faith in people—or at least hope for their better natures.
And best of all, he still has that flicker of fire in him—for himself, for what Rowena experienced. He does things not because they’re advantageous but because they’re right, and they might help someone who has suffered greatly take back a shred of control.
(And because the devil deserves a good solid kick in the ass.)
Holy shit, did they just… give meaningful conversation to Sam with another character, acknowledgment of his trauma, how horrifying his experience in the Cage was???? Did they REALLY???
My smart flexible beautiful nerdy sensitive son being wonderful and my sorceress queen kicking ass and slinging spells and Lucifer getting stabbed in the gut? Honestly, which Sam fan sacrificed their soul for this? I will reimburse you.
I expected cringey magical sex spell and punches in the face all the episode and instead I got that for like ten minutes and the rest of Rowena, Rowena and Sam sharing trauma, Sam OPENING ABOUT HIS TRAUMA and Castiel stabbing his murderer in the stomach. LIFE IS GOOD.
